The Invisible Handshake
In a garden under a tree, I sat alone
Waiting with a pocket watch in one hand
You said you would have been there
But it had been an hour
Am I a fool to trust you?
Am I to you just an instrument?
Although the garden is serene and peaceful
My heart is otherwise
I watch on as a humming bird feeds his wife
And I ask if our love would never die
What love is there, when there isn't one?
What lies there is, when it fills our hearts
Your eyes did speak "come to me"
And mine replied "wait for me"
But when it comes to times like this
You wreck my attempts to make this into reality
But then again I see your face
Your dark eyes and long hair
The innocent look you gave me
Then I sat upright awaiting the handshake
You lowered your head
And played with your hair
You got fainter and fainter
And disappeared into thin air
I checked my watch, two hours
I could wait for years
But you would never come
Then what reason is there for me to wait
As tears welled up in my eyes
I picked up my picnic basket
And the warm evening sun beams down on the garden
As if reminding me I'm a fool of the love that didn't exist
A gust of wind shook the trees
The brown leaves fell just as my heart did
In a garden under a tree, I sat alone
Waiting with a pocket watch in one hand
You said you would have been there
But it had been an hour
Am I a fool to trust you?
Am I to you just an instrument?
Although the garden is serene and peaceful
